It’s been a long time! Now that the pandemic is gradually being brought under control, we thought that our community would appreciate the opportunity to meet in person again.
For those that feel comfortable meeting again, we’re holding a social event on the open-air Johnson Roof Terrace at the IET in Savoy Place on 7th September between 17:30 and 21:00. We’ll provide some refreshments, including food.
We’ve chosen this date in the hope of good weather, so we can enjoy a safer outdoor gathering. But if the skies do open, we can use the adjacent Riverside Room and there’ll still be plenty of space.
Members will have already received their invitations by e-mail to the members list. We will open up the invitations to the wider UK networking community soon, capacity permitting.
We are running at a deliberately lower capacity for this event in order to ensure that all possible precautions can be taken, and therefore encourage you to register early to secure your place. This will also help us with planning.
Venue
When we first considered running a social event for the community we wanted to find a venue that had a good-sized outdoor space and that we could book during September, before the weather turns and makes an outdoor event less appealing.
After much research we have decided to use the Johnson Roof Terrace at the IET Savoy Place, which has the best combination of location and space. We wanted to be sure to choose a venue that would provide a COVID-secure environment and take risk mitigation measures seriously. The IET have shared with us their documentation, and we consider that they had thought through the process professionally, and their documentation has provided us reassurance that we will be able to invite members of our community in as safe an environment as possible.
The IET requires that everyone passing through the building wears a suitable mask or face covering. They do not need to be worn on the outside terrace, although you are welcome to do so. We will provide hand sanitiser in prominent locations.
How food will be served
We have asked the IET and their caterer to serve food in individual bowls and across a table with all staff wearing masks. In this way we believe that the chance of the food being contaminated by an individual who is asymptomatic is reduced.
Drinks will be served at a separate bar and, weather permitting, this will be set up outside.
Before you leave home
If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, or have come into contact with someone who does, please stay at home and follow NHS advice. These symptoms may include:
- a high temperature, or
- a new, continuous cough, or
- a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.
If you are planning to attend, we would kindly ask you to take a COVID-19 lateral flow test the night before or morning of the 7th September. These tests are available on the NHS free of charge from many local pharmacies, or can be ordered online.
If you do develop symptoms then you should follow Government advice and book a PCR test.
